Hostility Level (Passive)

An armadillo is a passive mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and armadillos. Because an armadillo is a passive mob, it will never attack you in the game (Creative or Survival mode).

Health Points

In Minecraft, an armadillo has 7 hearts heart for health. This gives an armadillo 14 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill an armadillo, you need to inflict 14 points of damage to the armadillo.

Where to Find Armadillos

In Minecraft, you can find armadillos in the Savanna and Badlands (Mesa) biomes.

Savanna

Badlands (Mesa)

If you are having trouble finding an armadillo, you can summon an armadillo using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.

Weapon

An armadillo does not carry a weapon.

Attack Method

You are safe to walk near an armadillo and it will not attack or cause you any damage. And if you attack an armadillo, it will just stand there. It will not attack you back.

Behavior

The armadillo has the following behavior in Minecraft:

  1. The armadillo rolls up into a ball when it feels threatened. For example, armadillos are threatened when hostile mobs are near, a player sprints by, or when near a mob or player that has recently attacked it.

  2. When the armadillo is rolled up:

    • It will be protected by its shell, which reduces the amount of damage taken.
    • The armadillo will not walk, eat, or be tempted by food such as Spider Eyes.
    • Periodically, the armadillo will peek to check its surrounding and scan for threats. If it detects no threats after 4 seconds, it will unroll and continue on its way.

  3. The Armadillo will not roll up if it is in water, in the air, on a Lead, or fleeing from something.

  4. When an Armadillo is not rolled up, it will scare away Spiders and Cave Spiders.

Drops

When you kill an armadillo in Minecraft, it will not drop anything. It is one of the few mobs that when killed, does not drop any items.

However, an armadillo will drop Armadillo Scutes periodicially or when brushed.

Make sure you pick up any dropped items before they disappear. They are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Experience Points

As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.

experience points

These orbs represent experience points. Unfortunately, when you kill an armadillo, you will not gain any experience points.
