This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft an oak log with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

Let's explore how to add an oak log to your inventory.

How to get an Oak Log in Survival Mode
You can add an oak log to your inventory in Survival mode by chopping down an oak tree. So, let's get started!
1. Find an Oak Tree
First, you need to find an oak tree in your Minecraft world. Oak trees are usually found in the Forest, Windswept Hills, Swamp or Mesa Plateau biomes.

2. Hold an Axe
Although you can use your hand to chop down an oak tree, we prefer to use a tool such as an axe. These are the axes you can choose from:
In this example, we are going to use a diamond axe because it is a faster tool to chop down an oak tree.
3. Chop the Tree Trunk
The game control to chop down the tree trunk of an oak tree depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the oak tree.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the oak tree.
- For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
- For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
- For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the oak tree.
- For Education Edition, left click and hold on the oak tree.
You will need to continue to chop until a small oak log finally appears.
4. Pick up the Oak Log
Make sure you pick up the oak log before it disappears.
Once you pick up the oak log, it will appear in your hotbar.
An oak log is a useful item and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
