How to Use a Loom in Minecraft
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to use a loom with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, the loom allows you to quickly and easily craft fancy banners with lots of different options to choose from. Let's explore how to use a loom.
Required Materials to use a Loom
In Minecraft, these are the materials you can use when crafting with a loom:
Banner
First, you need to choose a banner:
Dye
Next, you will need to choose a dye (the dye will determine the color of the banner):
Banner Pattern
Optionally, you can choose a banner pattern (the banner pattern will allow you to choose from fancier patterns but is not required):
Steps to Use a Loom
1. Place the Loom
To use a loom, first, select the loom in your hotbar. If you don't have a loom in your inventory, you can quickly make one with a crafting recipe for a loom.
Next, position your pointer (the plus sign) on the block where you want to place the loom. You should see the block become highlighted in your game window.
The game control to place the loom depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the block.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the block.
- For Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
- For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the block.
- For Education Edition, right click on the block.
2. Open the Loom
Next, open the loom. Your Loom menu should look something like this:
There are 3 slots in the Loom menu so that you can add a banner, a dye and a banner pattern.
3. Add a Banner
Next, place a banner in the loom. You can do this by moving a banner from your hot bar into the banner slot in the Loom menu.
In this tutorial, we are going to use a black banner as our banner.
4. Add a Dye
Next, place a dye in the loom.
In this tutorial, we are going to use cyan dye as our dye.
At this point, you can select one of the available banners in the loom (make sure you use the scroll bar to see all of the options). Or you can continue creating a fancier banner by adding a banner pattern.
5. Add a Banner Pattern
Adding a banner pattern is optional. If you want to try crafting a more intricate banner, you can place a banner pattern in the loom.
In this tutorial, we are going to use a Creeper Charge banner pattern.
6. Move the new Banner to Inventory
Once you have crafted the perfect banner, move it to your inventory.
Congratulations, you just learned how to use a loom in Minecraft.
