How to make a Verdant Froglight in Minecraft
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a verdant froglight with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, a verdant froglight is a new item that was introduced in the Wild Update. A verdant froglight is one of 3 types of froglights (ochre, verdant, and pearlescent). It is a light block that emits light level 15 which is the highest light level in the game, so it would be a great block for builds or to take to the Deep Dark.
Let's explore how to add a verdant froglight to your inventory.

How to get a Verdant Froglight in Survival Mode
You can add a verdant froglight to your inventory in Survival mode by interacting a frog with a magma cube. So, let's get started!
1. Find a Cold Frog
First, you need to find a cold frog. These are the green frogs that can be obtained by spawning a tadpole in a cold biome. As the tadpole ages, it will grow into a cold frog when it becomes an adult. Some of the biomes where tadpoles grow into cold frogs are Snowy Taiga, Snowy Plains, Grove, Frozen River, Frozen Peaks biomes.
Here is a picture of what a cold frog looks like:
2. Use a Lead on the Frog
Next, you want to place a lead on the frog. The game control to tie the lead to the frog depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the frog.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you move your pointer over the frog and press the Leash button.
- For Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
- For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the frog.
3. Take the Frog through the Nether Portal
Now that you have the frog leashed, take the frog through the Nether Portal to the Nether dimension.
4. Go to the Basalt Deltas
Once in the Nether dimension, you want to find the Basalt Deltas. This is the biome where you can find magma cubes.
5. Watch as the Frog drops Verdant Froglights
Finally, lead the frog near the small magma cubes. When the frog eats the small magma cube, a verdant froglight is dropped.
TIP: You may want to temporarily remove the lead, so that the frog has the freedom to move around and eat the small magma cubes faster.
As each verdant froglight is dropped, make sure you pick it up and add it to your inventory.
Congratulations, you've now learned how to add a verdant froglight to your inventory.
