How to make Blue Ice in Minecraft
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft blue ice with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, there are two ways to add blue ice to your inventory. You can either craft this item with a crafting table or you can find and gather this item in the game. Gathering blue ice is a bit tricky because you need to mine it with a tool that is enchanted with Silk Touch.

Required Materials to make Blue Ice
In Minecraft, these are the materials you can use to craft blue ice:
How to craft Blue Ice using a Crafting Table in Survival Mode
1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3x3 crafting grid that looks like this:
2. Add Items to make Blue Ice
In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3x3 crafting grid. To make blue ice, place 9 packed ice in the 3x3 crafting grid.
When making blue ice, it is important that the packed ice are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 3 packed ice. In the second row, there should be 3 packed ice. In the third row, there should be 3 packed ice. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for blue ice.
Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, blue ice will appear in the box to the right.
3. Move the Blue Ice to Inventory
Once you have crafted blue ice, you need to move the new item to your inventory.
Congratulations, you have made blue ice in Minecraft!
How to gather Blue Ice in Survival Mode
You can add blue ice to your inventory in Survival mode by mining blue ice with a tool that has been enchanted with Silk Touch. So let's get started!
1. Find a Block of Blue Ice
First, you need to find a block of blue ice in your Minecraft world. Blue ice is usually found in the Frozen Ocean or Deep Frozen Ocean biomes.

In this example, we are going to use an iron shovel that is enchanted with Silk Touch.
3. Mine the Blue Ice
The game control to mine the blue ice depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the blue ice.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the blue ice.
- For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
- For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
- For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the blue ice.
- For Education Edition, left click and hold on the blue ice.
The blue ice will break and a smaller block of blue ice will float on the ground.
TIP: Normally when you mine blue ice, the blue ice will shatter. However, when you mine the blue ice using a tool enchanted with Silk Touch, you will get the blue ice as a drop.
4. Pick up the Blue Ice
Make sure you pick up the blue ice before it disappears.
Once you pick up the blue ice, it will appear in your hotbar.
Blue ice is useful item and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
