1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3x3 crafting grid that looks like this:

In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3x3 crafting grid. To make a block of coal, place 9 coal in the 3x3 crafting grid.
When making a block of coal, it is important that the coal are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. There should be 3 coal in the first row, 3 coal in the second row, and 3 coal in the third row. This should fill all of the boxes in the crafting grid. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a block of coal.
Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the block of coal will appear in the box to the right.
3. Move the Block of Coal to Inventory
Once you have crafted a block of coal, you need to move the new item to your inventory.
