Fortune in Minecraft

Background
The Fortune enchantment increases the block drops from mining. For example, with the Fortune enchantment you will have a better chance of getting flint from gravel or an apple from a tree.
You can add the Fortune enchantment to any pickaxe, shovel or axe using an enchanting table, anvil, or game command. Then use the enchanted tool to mine and see just how many blocks are dropped!!
The maximum level for the Fortune enchantment is Level 3. This means that you can enchant an item with up to Fortune III. The higher the level, the more powerful the enchantment.

Hold the Enchanted Tool
Once you have a tool (ie: pickaxe, shovel, or axe) that is enchanted with Fortune, you need to hold the enchanted item in your hand. You will not gain the increased block drops until the tool is held in your hand and used.
